Chop the dates
Place in a saucepan with butter, sugar, salt, beaten egg yolk and vanilla
Simmer over low heat till dates are soft, stirring constantly
Break biscuits into small pieces- do not crush them.
Stir into date mixture
Grease a swiss roll tin and press mixture into tin
Place in fridge till firm
Remove from tin and cut into slices
Roll in caster sugar and store in an airtight container
